MAKERS of bespoke artworks are the latest artists to have their work displayed at Northallerton’s Civic Centre.
Ann Akers and Jane Grainger from Thirsk are collectively known as Purple Jackdaw and between them have painted, drawn, sewn, whittled, photographed, knitted and crocheted all of the exhibits that are on show.
Ms Akers is from a farming background and Ms Grainger is a teacher who has been creating art pieces since the early 1990s.
They try and make the pieces as cheaply as possible and use recycled materials wherever they can.
One of the items on show are ‘blue bells’ which were made for the recent Deer Shed Festival at Topcliffe.
Kate Staines, development officer, said: “The quality of the pieces is outstanding. “Lots of people were very interested when we were hanging the work, especially when the flamingo made an appearance.”
The exhibition is open on weekdays and runs at the Civic Centre until December.
