A CHARITABLE club that has supported countless good causes over almost three decades has had to close due to lack of younger members.

The Northallerton and District Lioness Club have just celebrated 28-years of community work and fund raising, with almost £4,000 given to various causes at

a final donation evening.

Sadly the event marked the closure of the 23-strong club as due to age, infirmity and family commitments, no current member feels they could take on the commitment of Club President Secretary or Treasurer.

The ladies will still meet socially as friends and the club would like to thank the public of Northallerton for the support they have given over the 28-years, making it possible for them to give help to so many and their pride in taking part in the community events.

The club was formed in 1989 sponsored by Thirsk Lions and are part of the World wide service club Lions Club International.

Over the years members have raised well over £120,000 with money going to many local causes, charity groups and individuals.
