A CARE home is planning a party for staff and residents after securing a new high standard in dementia care.

Mount Vale Care Home, in Northallerton, has received accreditation for a new standard of dementia care called 10-60-06, after successfully implementing improvements to the personalised dementia care it offers and bringing in extra training to help staff understand what it means to live with dementia.

The award comes days before the start of Dementia Awareness Week, which runs from May 14 to 20.

The home was visited by a Dementia Care Specialist in April who found the home's Memory Lane Community met all the new standards under the new programme developed by the dementia team at Barchester Healthcare.

Caroline Baker, Director of Dementia Care at Barchester said: “Mount Vale Care Home staff have worked really hard to achieve accreditation and we saw some lovely examples of how the criteria has been implemented in their Memory Lane Community and throughout the whole home. Congratulations to all the staff.”

General Manager at Mount Vale, Helen Lewis said: “The changes we have made to our dementia care services have made a big difference to the lives of those we care for. Both staff and residents’ family members have been especially delighted with the impact of the improved training programme.”
