LITTLE builders of the future donned their hard hats to enjoy a tour round a new housing development in Northallerton.
Housebuilder Berkeley DeVeer welcomed year 1 pupils from Applegarth Primary School to a site open day at its 25-home Mulberry Vale development.
The 32 five and six year-olds were given a guided tour and enjoyed seeing what tools and equipment were involved in the building of a property.
They were given a tool demonstration by the site team and were also taken into a half-complete shell property to show them an unfinished home midway through the build process as well as exploring the completed show home.
Teacher Tony Whiteley said: “The children have been focusing on a unit of enquiry called ‘Street Detectives’.
“It involves learning about the buildings around us and studying maps.
“The visit to the building site gave the children first hand experience of what materials are involved in the house building process and built on the learning they had been doing in science lessons.”
