A FAMILY marking ten years since their daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumour by organising a fundraising Wear A Hat Day in a town.

Naomi Savage, from Northallerton, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour ependymoma, aged just four in 2007.

She was given a 35 per cent chance of survival and underwent three brain operations and 28 rounds of intensive chemotherapy before she was told she was in remission from cancer in 2008.

Her parents created Naomi’s Fight for Life Fund, which has now been brought under the umbrella of the charity Brain Tumour Research.

Now the family of 14-year-old Naomi are encouraging people to take part in the charity’s Wear A Hat Day on Friday, March 31.

So far Sainsbury’s and Tesco supermarkets in Northallerton have signed up, along with a range of other organisations in Northallerton, including the Daisy Doodle Paint a Pot Parlour, Romanby Pre-school, Looby Lou’s Nursery; Northallerton School and Sixth Form College, food store Lewis and Cooper, Barkers department store and the Co-op garage on Brompton Road.

Hambleton District Council and Stokesley Sixth Form College are also taking part.

As a prelim to Wear A Hat Day, on Shrove Tuesday Northallerton Retail and Business Forum held a Pancake Race on Applegarth playing field and supported Brain Tumour Research by wearing Naomi’s Fight for Life Fund t-shirts and donating money to the charity.

Naomi’s mother, Lucy Savage, has registered the organisations with Brain Tumour Research.
