AN ELDERLY woman who died after being trapped under a lorry in a town centre collision on Tuesday has been named locally as Mildred Horner.

The 89-year-old woman was hit by the red tipper truck in Thirsk Road, Northallerton, as she walked past the library towards a roundabout close to the market town’s High Street, shortly before 10am.

The woman, from Northallerton, sustained serious leg injuries and after North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s Northallerton crew helped with the incident she was taken to The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where she died hours later.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the 51-year-old male driver of the lorry has been assisting police with their enquiries, but that no arrests had been made.

Officers have said they are still appealing for any witness of the incident to come forward with information.
