MOTHERS and children living in a women’s refuge in North Yorkshire will be tucking into a fantastic Christmas dinner this year thanks to a donation from a local bank.

The Broadacres-run women’s refuge, which provides a home and security to women who have suffered domestic violence, has received £100 from the TSB bank in Northallerton High Street.

The money will be put towards a Christmas dinner for the families living in the refuge.

Jayne Collinson, Manager of the Northallerton branch of TSB, explained: “TSB branches are given money each year at Christmas to donate to the local community and after supporting the women’s refuge in 2015, we wanted to do it again in 2016.

“Knowing the money will bring some Christmas cheer to the women and children is fantastic.”

Michaela Thomas, Refuge Co-ordinator, said: “We would like to thank TSB for once again supporting the refuge; it means so much to the families.

“We never cease to be amazed by the generosity of local people and organisations, especially at Christmas time.”

The women’s refuge run by Broadacres, and supported by North Yorkshire County Council, provides accommodation and services for single women, and women with children who have been, or who are, affected by domestic abuse.

The scheme provides a safe place where they can regain control over their lives by making considered choices for their future, including re-establishing themselves in the community.
