MOVES by a takeaway cafe for a late night extension have been approved despite objections from the police and neighbours.
Hambleton District Council’s licensing panel agreed that the Odana take away in Friarage Street, Northallerton should be allowed to open until 2am every day of the week, extending from the current time of 11pm.
The cafe does not sell alcohol. But the Safer Neighbourhood Partnership warned that there had been 16 incidents reported in the past 18 months involving the premises and they were concerned that extending the opening hours could cause further problems.
Sgt Simon Wilson, manager of the partnership, told the licensing panel increasing the opening hours could have a negative effect on the quality of life of residents and visitors to Northallerton, causing anti social behaviour and crime to increase in the area.
Members of the licensing panel agreed they were satisfied there would not be an adverse affect and decided it was not appropriate to reject the application or impose alternative conditions.
