A NORTH Yorkshire woman has set herself the challenge of staging a fundraising venture every month for a year, as she recovers from depression.

Alex Gibb, from Northallerton, has organised an eighties aerobic workout in Northallerton to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation.

The 26-year-old says she battled with depression for about three years. At her lowest ebb she made a pledge to use the experience to devote her life to helping as many other people as she could.

She decided to start her mission by raising as much money as possible for the Make A Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children and young people facing life-threatening conditions. The aim is to stage one fundraising venture every month for 12 months.

Alex said: “I had struggled with depression and got to a really, really low point in my life. I thought instead of giving up I thought I would try and help other people. It gave me something to focus on and that helped me get through.

“It’s always a good feeling to help other people.”

She began her challenge in January, with a charity leg wax, before teaching herself to crochet and creating woollen animals to sell. Later in the year she plans a marathon charity bike ride.

The three-hour eighties aerobic workout event will take place with BodyTalk and Liberty Fitness at the Golden Lion in Northallerton on April 24 from 1pm. For more information contact BodyTalk on 01609-761678.

The fundraiser who wins the most will win six months free membership to the BodyTalk gym in Northallerton.
