A NORTH Yorkshire music festival has been voted in the top 100 best UK festivals - despite only launching in 2015.

The Great Northern Mod and Ska Festival, held over three days from August 26 to August 28 at Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, near Bedale, has been included in a top 100 festivals to visit in 2016 in the Daily Telegraph.

Great Northern Festivals managing director Mike Jinks said: “We are absolutely delighted that all our hard work has been acknowledged so early in the event’s life.

“It is a real accolade and a testament to everybody involved from the crew to the acts and everybody in between. A particular thanks to the Ropner family who continue to support the event despite the sad loss of Lord John Ropner earlier this year.

"We are now more determined than ever to make the 2016 event better than ever and really put it on the festival calendar for many years to come.”

British punks UK Subs, celebrating their 40th year, will headline Friday; Dreadzone will rock the main stage on Saturday; and the original rude boy Neville Staple and his band hit the stage Sunday. There is a plethora of other music acts across the whole weekend too numerous to mention, details of which can be found on the event website www.greatnorthernfestivals.com/modska.
