SHOPPERS, visitors and workers in Northallerton can now ward off their hunger pangs and support a local charity at the same time.
Every Wednesday between noon and 1.30pm volunteers from Hambleton FoodShare serve hot soup and roll for just £2. There is a choice of three soups each week and tea and coffee is also available.
But from now the FoodShare volunteers are also offering a takeaway option from their base at the Zion United Reformed Church on the High Street.
“We have been running our sit down service for the last two years but decided to add on the take out option for those that maybe in a rush at dinner time,” said co-ordinator Margaret Brice.
“As we are a registered charity, we are run almost entirely by volunteers and rely heavily on fundraising.
“We thought soup and a roll would go down well not only with shoppers but workers needing a quick, cheap and healthy lunch and allow us to raise much needed funds at the same time so please come along and support us.”
