A FLOOD prevention group has raised more than £700 from a music night.

The Brompton Flood Prevention Group held the event at the Village Inn in Brompton, near Northallerton, with ukulele band the Uketopians performing.

The gig was a sell-out, with more than 85 people enjoying the entertainment as well as a pie and pea supper, and the raffle raised £726 which was match funded by Yvonne Richardson from Barclays Bank.

Committee chairman Sue Butler said: “We would also like to thank the local community for their continued support in our quest to 'slow the flow' through Brompton, to try to prevent future flooding.

“Next July a local farmer has allowed us to start a pilot scheme, featuring natural flood defences, on his land, which will be the first one in the area.

“This will entail building three leaky dams in Ing Beck, as well as an offline pond, with the help of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, which will be a haven for wildlife, with the aim being to slow the flow of water into the village.”
