RETAILERS in Hambleton’s five market towns are set to launch campaigns to boost festive takings, more than a month before Christmas.

Santa will first arrive in the district on November 21, with an appearance at Bedale’s Christmas Festival, from 11am until 4pm, at Bedale Hall.

There will be craft stands and performances by Bedale Brass Band, the Rock Choir and school choirs, while there will also be a food market on the cobbles on both the Saturday and Sunday.

Stokesley’s festive shopping season will be launched on November 26, with its High Street Christmas lights being switched on.

Many shops will stay open until 8pm, and there will be recitals by choirs and hot food on the Old Market Square.

Thirsk's four-day Christmas Fayre will be launched with the Market Place lights switch-on at 5pm on November 27, while Santa will be in his Northallerton Town Hall grotto on November 29 as part of the town’s Santa Sunday celebrations.

Festivities start in Easingwold on December 2 with a Light Up A Life service on the Market Green.
