A CHARITY which provides care to terminally-ill people has launched an online memory tree dedicated to loved ones that have passed away.

Northallerton-based Herriot Hospice Homecare has set up a special page on its website which enables people to dedicate a leaf on a tree to a missed loved one or friend.

The idea is that the leaf, which turns from brown to green when a dedication is made, will act as a constant reminder of their life and the memories shared together.

As well as the name of the person, people can also leave a short message and upload a photograph.

They will then be taken to Herriot’s Just Giving page, where they will be asked to make a small donation.

Chief executive Karen Wilkinson-Bell said: “We wanted to enable family and friends to make a dedication about a loved one which was accessible to all through our new website.

“The design is computer generated to reflect the Yorkshire Dales and the Herriot brand, but you don’t need to have used our services, or even live locally, to leave a dedication as it is open to anyone.”

She added: “By leaving a dedication, not only will people have another lasting memory of a loved one, their small donation will also greatly help the work of Herriot Hospice Homecare.”
