A 30-YEAR-OLD woman from the Middlesbrough died early yesterday morning after the car she was travelling in left the road and hit a telegraph pole near Hornby, North Yorkshire.

It happened at around 3.54am Sunday morning on the B1264 which leads from Toll Bar Garage at Entercommon, to Low Worsall, between Darlington and Northallerton

The collision was at its junction with an unclassified road leading to Girsby and Over Dinsdale when the silver Ford Ka, which was heading towards Low Worsall, left the road.

The car had two occupants – a man and a woman.

The woman, aged 30 and from the Ormesby area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, aged 39, suffered serious injuries and was taken to James Cook Hospital, Middlesbrough, where he remains in a serious condition.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw a silver Ford Ka travelleing along the B1264 prior to the crash, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2 and ask for the Major Collision Investigation Team at Thirsk or email MCIT@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to deal with the collision and to allow investigators to examine the scene. It reopened at around 9 am.
