A FAMILY-RUN department store is inviting women and girls affected by cancer to visit its beauty department for advice on beauty and make-up.

Barkers in Northallerton has teamed up with the charity Look Good Feel Better, which helps women and teenagers combat the visible side-effects of cancer treatment, including the loss of eyelashes and eyebrows and skin-related issues.

Barkers' beauty hall will also be raising funds during the charity’s annual fundraising campaign, Feel Better Week, by hosting a series of events in the High Street store from June 1 to 7.

Beauty counter staff will be giving advice on cosmetics, skincare and fragrance and other beauty tips.

Donations can be made to the charity in return for a mini manicure and there will be a raffle.

Karen Parkes-Hatley, cosmetics buyer at Barkers, said: "We're delighted to be involved with Look Good Feel Better as it is a very worthwhile cause, and we hope to raise both funds and awareness for the charity.

"We will be offering tips and advice on beauty treatments and cosmetics for women and teenagers to help improve their well-being and self confidence."

Look Good Feel Better supported 14,500 women and teenagers in 2014.

Ian Daniels, head of fundraising at Look Good Feel Better, said: "We are incredibly grateful to the beauty team at Barkers for their support.”
