A FAMILY-RUN department store is inviting customers to raid their dads’ wardrobes – and donate barely-worn clothes to their charity appeal.

Barkers, in Northallerton, is collecting good quality menswear to be handed on to the Cancer Research UK shop in the town.

The charity shop urgently needs more good condition, quality men's clothes, including jackets, trousers, shirts, jumpers, belts and shoes.

Anyone who donates menswear at a special collection box at Barkers' menswear department between now and June 14 will be given a £5 voucher to spend on new clothes for their dad in time for Father's Day on June 21.

They will also be entered into a prize draw to receive a new outfit for their father to the value of £500.

It is the second time Barkers has teamed up with the town's Cancer Research UK shop to encourage customers to donate items.

Last September kind-hearted customers donated hundreds of pairs of shoes, which are still being sold in the branch and have already raised £2,000.

Val Boasman, manager of the Northallerton Cancer UK branch, said: "We are desperately short of men's clothes because men seem to wear them to death and, by the time we receive them, we have to throw them out instead.

"This is a wonderful campaign and it will increase our takings by at least 50 per cent."

Barkers managing director Charles Barker said: "This is a great chance for families to smarten up their dad for Father's Day and help a fantastic cause at the same time.”
