A YOUNG nature lover is winning worldwide attention with his erudite musings on the flora and fauna he comes across during his daily rambles.

Zach Haynes – who will be 11 at the end of this month – enjoys writing about his finds and exploits so much that he decided to write a daily blog.

He set himself the target of writing about nature every day for a year and has already made more than 100 posts.

And his fact-filled little articles have struck a chord all over the globe – with readers in countries as far away as France, America, Japan and Australia.

Zach, from, Brompton, near Northallerton, has also won support from groups like the RSPCA, the North York Moors National Park and Nosterfield Nature Reserve.

His father Mark said: “Zach’s interest stems from living in North Yorkshire and holidays in places like the Lake District, Scotland and North Norfolk, all fabulous places for wildlife.

“From an early age we’ve always taken him out for walks and he’s always been fascinated by nature and full of questions. We support him all we can but have had to do very little to kindle his enthusiasm.”

He added: “I think what really established his passion was finding a poorly baby hedgehog and nursing it to adulthood before releasing it back into the wild.”

Zach has also been instrumental in getting a birdwatching club set up at his school, Brompton primary, which meets each week to see what visitors they get in the school garden.

“It’s been really good to do this and share how great nature is with my friends,” said Zach.

“I was a bit nervous and I didn’t know at first if the club would be popular but it was full up from the first session and now more people are asking to join.”

In addition to his blog Zach is a member of a local theatrical group and was recently in the local panto.

But he's committed to nature and very proud of his achievement of getting to 100 blog posts.

“I’m already thinking about what to cover for the next 100 and beyond – only 265 more to go,” he said.
