A “BANK in a Box” has been launched at the country’s largest army base to remove the difficulties faced by service personnel in getting out of their military base to a bank branch.

Barclays has launched a mobile branch at Munster Barracks in Catterick Garrison where they can provide banking advice and bring bank services to military men and women.

Barclays branch manager in Leyburn, Sue Inglis and Natasha Bateman, from the bank’s Richmond branch, set up and staffed the centre.

Mrs Inglis said the aim is to provide training and guidance, such as telling soldiers exactly how much they could borrow on their salaries, but the most important aspect was to bring the banking services to the customer.

“Most people can squeeze a trip to the bank in their day to day lives but for those serving it can be a real logistical problem,” she said.

“The mobile branch will reduce the stress of rushing to the bank, allow serving personnel to enjoy their free time and give the, the opportunity to take more control of their money by asking questions with the experts.”
