THE Army is renowned for upholding tradition and one regiment based at Catterick Garrison has just restored one dating back to the D-Day landings.
Marne Barracks-based 32 Engineer Regiment was formed for the invasion to support all the elements deployed during the operation, The regiment remained armoured until 2020 when it was reshaped into a light role engineer unit - losing all its armour.
But that has now changed with the arrival of three 30-tonne Terrier armoured diggers with technology so advanced they can be operated by remotely to clear routes from a safe distance.
In all five will be provided. The complex training programme will be headed by Staff Sergeant Rob Tordoff.
