A STRONGWOMAN broke a world record for lifting during the Northern qualifier for the England’s Strongest Man competition.
Donna Moore, from Catterick, in North Yorkshire, lifted a 148.7kg stone onto a 112cm high platform, beating the current World Record of a 139kg stone being lifted onto a 110cm platform, which was held by a woman from Austria.
The feat, which Ms Moore completed twice, took place at the Strongman competition at JP Fitness, in Spennymoor, County Durham, on Saturday.
There were 18 competitors at the event, hailing from across the Northern region, from Runcorn up to the Scottish Borders.
The top four – Paul Smith, in first place, Mark Snaith, second, Phil Roberts, third, and Sean Logan, fourth – will also compete in the national final of England’s Strongest Man, in London, in June.
The quartet all hail from Yorkshire.
Mark Lawson, who organised the event in Spennymoor said: “It was good, the weather wasn’t very warm which was even better because the heat makes competitors suffer.
“There was a decent crowd who stayed all day.”
