GOLFING prospects in North Yorkshire have been boosted thanks to a £70,000 cash injection.

The money has been awarded to Bedale Golf Club to construct new facilities - a high-tech indoor swing studio and an outdoor academy course for coaching and junior competition.

The purpose of this project is to attract more young people to play golf in an environment they are comfortable in.

The club is among 148 local sports projects to secure a share of £9m of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

The indoor swing studio will give players a range of virtual options to enable them to practice and improve their technique, or play a normal round of golf without the walking in between shots.

It means many golf courses around the world can be reproduced virtually so the game can be enjoyed all year round or on rainy days.

The outdoor academy course will give young golfers a feel of what it is like on a golf course, and provide the club’s pro with a teaching facility.

Golf development committee chairman Matthew Kettlewell said: “We are delighted and extremely grateful to have secured this investment, which means we can enhance the several quality services Bedale Golf Club already has to offer.

“Both new facilities will be an asset to us, and we are hopeful that the use of technology newly on the market in the swing studio will encourage junior players into the game of golf.”
