A MUSIC festival which blazed the trail for mod and ska fans across the North is to stage a repeat performance.

Organisers of the first Great Northern Ska and Mod Festival say they were so impressed with the reaction to last year's event that they will hold another.

Thousands of people from across the North are again expected to descend on the historic county estate at Thorp Perrow, near Bedale, North Yorkshire.

Great Northern Festival Managing Director Mike Jinks said: ”We were genuinely blown away by the amazing feedback we received after the 2015 event which made all the hard work well worth it.

"It made organising this year’s event a no brainer. We have been planning behind the scenes since and have an even bigger and better show for our visitors in 2016.”

The Festival will be held over August Bank Holiday from the 26 to 28, headlining on Friday night will be seminal British punks UK Subs, with Dreadzone rocking the main stage on Saturday and original rude boy Neville Staple and his band hitting the main stage on Sunday.

Mr Jinks added: "There is a plethora of other music acts across the whole weekend too numerous to mention.

"A special additional treat for visitors this year will be a comedy set each evening Saturday and Sunday in the Northern Room brought to you and hosted by Simon Donald, that’s him off the Viz.”

Last year headliners included Craig Charles, Bad Manners, The Lambrettas, The Selecter, 9 Below Zero and The Chords.

Alongside the music organisers say there will be many other attractions taking advantage of the setting of the Festival on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales with an organised scooter ride around the 2014 Tour-de-France course, a Show and shine competition so everyone can polish up their scooters, fairground rides and crafts.

For further amusement there’s Crazy golf, a climbing wall, giant Jenga and buzz wire for kids of all ages. A throw back recreation of a Northern Soul dance hall complete with bar will also be open until 2.30am. There’s also a Village with a corner shop.

Great Northern Festivals, who describe themselves as a team of musicians and music loving professionals put the event together following on from their successful Richmond Live event which this year will be held from July 31 to August 1 and feature The Bootleg Beatles.
