BUILDING society staff have donned their Lycra to cycle 136 miles on a static bike.

Colleagues at Skipton Building Society’s Bedale branch joined in a regional effort to raise money for the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund at Leeds General Infirmary.

Branch manager Lynne Garner and staff members Val Abbey, Megan Bennett and Jodie Donaldson took turns to get on an exercise bike and cycle the equivalent of Bedale to Leeds Infirmary and back – a total of 136 miles.

Customer adviser Ms Bennett said: “We had a great day but I don’t think we quite knew what we were letting ourselves in for.

"It was a great team effort and even one of our customers joined in and rode a couple of kilometres for us.

“We are so lucky in Bedale to have such generous customers who came in to support us. It was also lovely to see people walking past and then deciding to come in and ask what we were up to and donate. A real community spirit was in the air.”

To date the Bedale team has raised £132.91 with donations still coming in. Regionally, the society has raised more than £300 for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund.
