THREE RAF logistics specialists are riding high after cycling more than 100 miles from the Irish Sea to the North Sea in just over nine hours for charity.

Sergeant Jason Wilkinson, Sergeant Brian Tumilty and Corporal Danny Meek, of the Logistics Squadron at RAF Leeming, said they were delighted to have raised more than £500 for Scotty’s Little Soldiers.

The event saw the personnel, who chose the charity as they are fathers, set off at 3.30am from the airbase near Bedale, leaving Morecambe at 6am, before crossing the Yorkshire Dales, and smashing their target arrival time at Hartlepool by three hours.

Sgt Tumilty said: “We found this to be a tough challenge due to the pace we set and the challenging hills of the Yorkshire Dales, however it was all worth it due to the money we raised for a brilliant charity.

"At the end we were greeted by some family members and were all relieved that it was over.

“We wanted to do something for both a military charity and a children’s charity and Scotty’s Little Soldiers combines both of these."

Scotty's Little Soldiers supports the children of personnel killed while serving in the British Armed Forces, providing Christmas and birthday gifts, treats, trips and activities.
