A SEAMAN from North Yorkshire is starting his Royal Navy career in style – aboard its biggest and newest warship.
Logistician Robert Burrill, from Bedale, has been assigned to the aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth, straight from completing his training.
The 65,000-tonne ship was formally named by the Queen last year and is currently being fitted out in Scotland.
As a supply chain specialist Robert will be part of the team who will be responsible for ensuring that the new ship is fully equipped ready to set sail on sea trials in 2017.
“I am spending a lot of time getting to know my way around the ship and my role onboard,” he said.
“It’s a steep learning curve but very exciting. I am most looking forward to living onboard and then setting sailing for the first time.”
The aircraft carrier and its sister ship, currently being built, will be the biggest and most powerful warships ever constructed for the Royal Navy.
