THE North York Moors as they once were and as they are in the present is to be the theme of a “then and now” exhibition.

As part of the National Park’s 60th anniversary celebrations the show is to be staged at weekends from November 24 to Janbuary 27.

And people are now being asked to look through their photograph albums for pictures that represent the landscape and way of life of the North York Moors over the last 60 years.

From agricultural shows to festivals, transport to farming practices, recreational activities to spectacular views, the authority wants to capture as wide a record as possible of people living, working and playing in the North York Moors.

In partiicular it is looking for pictures from the 1950s and 60s that can be displayed next to a modern day equivalent.

Spokesman Amy Thomas said: "Although there has been little change in the actual landscape of the North York Moors over the last 60 years, fashions, vehicles and other social and cultural elements have changed considerably.”

The exhbition will be held at the Inspired by… Gallery at the Moors National Park Centre, Danby.

The authority is holding a number of drop-in sessions for people to bring their photographs to be scanned in. They will be held at: The Gateway Centre, Staithes, July 5, 1.30pm – 5pm; Osmotherley Village Hall, July 12, 3.30pm – 7pm; Hutton le Hole Village Hall July 17, 3.30pm – 7pm; Sutton Bank National Park Centre, July 19, 11am – 3pm; the Hill Institute, Thornton le Dale, July 25, 3.30 – 7pm.
