THE search is on for a man or woman to be awarded one their hometown’s greatest honours.

Northallerton Town Council is seeking nominations from local people for somneone to be granted honorary citizenship.

Nominations can be made for anyone who has lived in the parish for the greater part of their life, or has committed a considerable proportion of their time voluntarily and beyond their work commitments, to benefit the population of Northallerton.

In the past it has mainly been for public and charitable services, but nominations can be made for anyone so long as they are still alive and for any reason.

However the reasion must involve benefit to the town such as the preservation of its character and enhancement of leisure services to sport, business, churches, education, the arts, the environment and animal welfare.

Nominations must be made on an official form available from the Northallerton Town Council and must include reasons for the nomination and be signed by two parish residents.
