A FAMILY run pub on the North York Moors has been named as the Pub of the Year in England in a prestigious competition.

The Black Swan, at Oldstead, close to Thirsk, won the national title in the AA Hospitality Awards 2010.

The pub is run by Tom, Anne, James and Tommy Banks and they received the award in front of 700 members of the hospitality business in London.

Mr Banks said: "It’s such a prestigious award – we can hardly believe it.

"We are all absolutely delighted. It’s a really tremendous thing for us to be named AA Pub of the Year."

The awards ceremony is attended by world renowned chefs, hoteliers and key industry members and they recognise excellent service in the UK.

The judges deemed that the Black Swan offered some of the best food in Yorkshire plus it had a stunning location and superb accommodation.

The judges decided that the pub with its open fire, traditional bar and restaurant that served prize winning food had understated quality.
