POLICE investigating an attack on a man and a spate of vandalism in a market town have made three arrests.

A 39-year-old man suffered facial injuries after being attacked by a gang of youths in Finkle Street, Thirsk, in the early hours of July 19.

The assault followed an incident in Front Street, Sowerby, in which a number of cars had their wing mirrors broken.

A 20-year-old man from Thirsk and an 18-year-old man from Sowerby were arrested yesterday, in connection with the incidents.

A 17-year-old youth from Thirsk was arrested on Tuesday.

All three have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Sergeant Sharon Findlay, of Thirsk police, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for the information they have given us during this investigation.

"Community intelligence and some good police work has resulted in the arrest of four suspects and shows the value of the police and residents working in partnership."
