ONE of the country’s veteran political heavyweights will be speaking in York Minster later this month.

Tony Benn will speak on "The Moral Choice in Politics" when he gives the city’s next Ebor Lecture on March 24.

The president of the Stop the War Campaign, Tony Benn is a former chairman of the Labour Party, the longest serving Labour MP and a Cabinet minister for nine years. He is also an acclaimed diarist and campaigner.

He will address the audience in York Minster as part of a series of lectures which sets topical business subjects against a moral or faith background. Some 1,100 tickets have already been applied for.

Held annually, past speakers have included Dr Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury; Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York; Shirley Williams, former leader of the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords; and Labour MP Clare Short.

The lecture is free and begins at 7pm but admission is by ticket only. Further information can be found at yorksj.ac.uk/eborlectures or contact 01904-876474 or email eborlectures@yorksj.ac.uk
