Home fire

A FIRE crew from Northallerton were called to a fire at a residential property in the town at 7.24pm on Thursday. All the occupants were out on arrival and the crew extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets and two main jets.

Crafts fair

A CHARITY art and crafts fair is being held at Thirsk Town Hall on Sunday August 5 from10am to 4pm. More than 20 local artists and craftspeople will be exhibiting their pieces alongside home baked refreshments. Entry is free.

Good progress

CHILDREN and staff at Pickering Preschool Playgroup have celebrated a “good” Ofsted report. The youngsters were found to be making good progress in their learning and development with staff planning effectively for their individual needs.

Garage plan

A GARAGE in the heart of Whitby’s conservation zone could be transformed into three new town houses. Plans have been lodged to transform the building, at 23-24 Church Street, into a terrace building of three homes, mirroring the design of the area. For many years the garage has been home to a motorcycle retailer and repair garage.

RAF honour

FOUR students from Norton College were chosen to join in the celebrations to mark the Royal Air Force’s 100th birthday in London recently. The trip of a lifetime was first prize for winning a national competition, organised by the Historical Association, to mark the RAF’s centenary.

Flower expert

RENOWNED florist Fiona Hogg - whose clients have included the Queen - will be the guest speaker at a “Stunning Summer Evening of Flowers and Inspiration” event at Dunnington near York.
