INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing into an accident which caused part of the A1 to be closed for most of Tuesday.
A lorry driver was killed after an articulated lorry and a car transporter collided at junction 50 near Baldersby at 7am on Tuesday.
The accident resulted in a massive fire. Police said they are not yet ready to identify the lorry driver.
"The collision occurred between an articulated lorry and a car transporter, which were both travelling northbound. Sadly the driver of the articulated lorry died at the scene. Police are not yet in a position to release his identity," said a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police.
