HOUSEHOLDS at risk of flooding across the Hambleton district have been given a helping hand by the council.
More than 2,000 lightweight alternatives to sandbags - known as FloodSax - have been distributed to flood-risk neighbourhoods by Hambleton Council.
Residents in areas such as Brompton, Dalton and Great Langton have received the FloodSax as a preventative measure against potential flood damage.
Council leader Mark Robson explained: “Traditional sandbags are very heavy, can deteriorate over time and eventually fall apart.
“The council is delighted that it has been able to make FloodSax available to parishes who may struggle for somewhere to store the bulky sandbags and we hope they will never have to be used.”
The district council will also continue to make traditional sandbags available.
