A TOURISM group is holding a day of free entry to a town’s top attractions in a bid to remind residents of the wealth of culture and entertainment on offer.

People living in and around Richmond can gain free entry to the Green Howards Museum, Richmond Castle, the Georgian Theatre Royal and Richmondshire Museum on Saturday, February 27 with proof of residency.

“We want Richmondshire residents to come into the town and visit our attractions ahead of the main tourist season; reminding themselves of the wonderful history and heritage that’s right on their doorstep,” said Lynda Powell, chairman of the Welcome to Richmond group, which has created the Love Being Local event.

“With free admission, this is a great opportunity for people to visit our venues, have an excellent experience, and then tell their friends, family and visitors what’s on offer.”

As well as getting in to the museums, castle and theatre for free, Richmondshire residents will also be in with a chance of winning a prize hamper by completing a ‘Noted Locals’ trail round the five participating venues.

The Station, which does not charge an admission fee, is also taking part in the initiative, with history and heritage information on display, and running guided tours at 11am and 2pm.

All of the attractions, as well as the town’s volunteer run Tourist Information Centre are keen to welcome visitors on the day who may be interested in giving some time to help out during 2016.
