THE developers behind a new eco holiday park plan say they have worked hard to minimise any traffic impact.

Proposals to build 179 holiday chalets at Angrove Country Park, between Great Ayton and Stokesley have been submitted to Hambleton District Council.

It would be created south west of Great Ayton, between the A173 and Yarm Lane, and includes fishing ponds, a cafe and cycle hire. It is expected to create up to 160 new jobs.

Proposals were amended to cut the number of chalets and enhance landscaping due to comments following a public exhibition in August.

However, the Action Group Against Angrove Park say they are concerned at the potential congestion it will cause in Great Ayton and possible noise or light pollution.

Steve Hesmondhalgh, planning consultant on the proposal, said: "The park is very much designed to encourage visitors to enjoy the natural peace and tranquillity of the area.

“Fishing ponds and cycle hire will provide activities for visitors in keeping with the surroundings, and consequently the development will not generate any noise.

“Low level external lighting will be used. There will be no light pollution from the park.”

He said a shuttle bus between Great Ayton, Stokesley and the site would minimise traffic and improvements would be made to nearby bus stops. He said cycling was also an important part of the proposal, as a means of transport and as a leisure activity.
