THE organisers of the Great Yorkshire Show are preparing for a visit by Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and a live TV broadcast.

The Harrogate event will welcome the Royals to the first day of the 157th show on Tuesday, July 14, and The One Show presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones, who will broadcast the BBC programme live from the showground the following day.

The Royal couple will meet exhibitors, staff and show visitors and will take away a hamper of regional produce from Fodder, the Yorkshire Agricultural Society’s shop.

Show director Bill Cowling, who will host the Royal guests, said: “Their presence always creates a very special atmosphere as it is plain to see how much they enjoy meeting our visitors and they have a genuine interest in our show and farming generally.”

The presenters will give a behind-the-scenes look at how the show runs and will meet people showing their animals as well as getting stuck in to have a go at some traditional rural crafts and trades.

The show has attracted almost 13,000 entries from prize-winning bulls to international show jumpers and there will also be a range of fashion shows and more than 1,200 trade stands.
