North Yorkshire County Council is to press the Government for further improvements to the main east coast A64 road to Scarborough.
The road is a major tourist route connecting the coast to the main A1 and A19 routes. New moves have been announced to improve one of the major sections on the route at the Hopgrove roundabout with potentially further dualling.
Between £100 m and £250m is available and the county council is calling on other local authorities and businesses to press for further improvements along the whole stretch of the road.
“We have a real opportunity to pursue improvements for the A64 between Scarborough and York,” said County Councillor Gareth Dadd, North Yorkshire’s Executive Member for Highways.
“The improvement of the A64 is essential to the economic well-being of our east coast communities and improvement from the west is the right approach. The money announced is not guaranteed so we must be positive and press for that commitment."
