ARTISTIC children at a North Yorkshire school have submitted designs for a T-shirt to be worn by injured service personnel and veterans at a Help for Heroes recovery centre.
Pupils at Le Cateau Primary School were invited to create a design for use on T-shirts being donated to Phoenix House, in Catterick Garrison, by Lancashire fashion company VOI Jeans.
The competition has attracted more than 70 entries, from which a panel of judges will select their favourite.
The winning design will also be the centrepiece of an art exhibition at Bolton Castle at the end of June to mark Armed Forces Weekend, where all the young artists’ efforts will be on display.
Di Williams, a volunteer who runs weekly art classes at Phoenix House - and who is one of the judges - said they had approached Le Cateau School because around 65 per cent of the children had family members in the Army so would know what sort of image would best suit the wearers of the T-shirt.
She said: “It was also a good opportunity for us to explain about the support Help the Heroes gives to servicemen and women in their road to recovery and, in particular, the wide range of activities on offer at Phoenix House.”
Visitors to Bolton Castle will be able to see the children’s paintings from June 28 until July 11.
