CHRISTIANS from different denominations braved the bracing spring weather to be immersed in a tank of cold water as part of an Easter baptism ritual.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, baptised eleven people from nearby churches outside York Minster on Saturday, March 30.

The service of baptism was organised by One Voice York, a network of Christian churches and leaders of different denominations working together across the city.

Dr John Sentamu and the candidates’ church leaders also took to the freezing water to baptise the candidates.

The baptisms were also held to symbolize the message of death and new life at Easter.
