A PEDESTRIAN has suffered life threatening injuries after a crash in Gateshead

The collision happened shortly after 3.15am this morning (Saturday) near the Tyne Bridge.

A Ford Fiesta was travelling southbound on the bridge when it collided with a 21-year-old pedestrian near to the junction with Askew Road.

Emergency Services attended the scene, and the pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious and life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Fiesta is assisting police officers with their enquiries.

The Tyne Bridge was temporarily closed while enquiries were carried out but has since reopened.

Northumbria Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have dashcam footage from around the location between 3.15am and 3.30am, to get in touch via 101 and quote reference 182 of April 14.
