ACCLAIMED cityscape artist, Paul Kenton, will be making an appearance in the region this weekend.

Art fans can meet the artist at Castle Fine Art gallery on Grey Street, Newcastle, on Sunday, between 1pm and 3pm, when he will be showcasing his latest collection, Metallique.

Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to Kenton about his collections, past and present, as well as his inspirations and techniques, and he will also be unveiling his new book, Metallique II.

Demonstrating both a shift in his style and medium of choice, Metallique swaps traditional canvas for modern metal and reveals the latest in Kenton’s artistic evolution.

The collection was born when a canvas failed to fit onto an easel that he had built, resulting in him reaching for leftover sheet aluminium and applying oil paint to that instead. Delighted with the result and the way the oils took to the metal, Kenton began refining his brushstrokes and reviewed the tools he was using to discover how the new medium could be adapted to his style of work.

Kenton is renowned for his striking cityscapes, which are inspired by fast-paced city-living across the world.

He said: “I love to capture the mood and spirit of a scene, adding layers of depth and expression which just can’t be captured in a straight pictorial study.

“My work is heavily inspired by the different times of the day and the effects these throw across the cities. I am fascinated by natural light and the way it interacts with the buildings.”

Sarah Manghan, gallery manager at Castle Fine Art, said: “Paul captures the essence and personality of the world’s most iconic cities. We look forward to welcoming guests to the gallery to meet the artist himself.”
