FUNDING remains available for would be sail trainees to take part in the adventure of a lifetime in a major international maritime festival next year.
As more vessels register to participate in the 2018 Tall Ships Race, which starts in Sunderland, in July, opportunities remain open for novices to get on-board.
Sail training is open to anyone, regardless of ability and experience.
For aspiring participants unable to cover the cost of the usual £1,500 cost of the voyage, bursaries are available covering training, berth on board, flights home and equipment.
But, the scheme only remains open until midnight, on Sunday.
Trainees will spend seven nights on-board a participating vessel on the opening leg of the 2018 race, the voyage from Sunderland to Esbjerg in Denmark, from Friday July 13 to 20.
Applicants, who must be aged at least 15 on the day of sailing, on July 14, can apply via tallshipsprojecdtoffice@sunderland.gov.uk, but all those under 18 must have permission of a parent or guardian.
