EVACUATION: Marks and Spencer store at Kingston Park shopping centre in Newcastle
AN abandoned school bag sparked the evacuation of a Marks and Spencer store.
Staff at the store in the Kingston Park shopping centre in Newcastle evacuated the store at around 11am this morning after spotting the unattended bag.
Police attended the scene and quickly found that the package in question was a school bag that had been left in the store.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Staff have returned to the store and police want to reassure the people in the area that there was never any risk to the public.
“Police would always encourage the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour by calling 101”.
