A TEENAGE motorcyclist has died after leaving the road and hitting a tree.
The crash occurred at 9pm on Tuesday on Lancefield Avenue in the Walker area of Newcastle.
Emergency services attended and the 18-year-old biker was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
He was later pronounced deceased at hospital and police are investigating the circumstances.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “The motorcycle being driven was a blue and silver Yamaha 125cc motorcycle which would have been travelling east on Lancefield Avenue when it crashed.
“Enquiries to establish the cause of the incident are ongoing and police are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision.
"The road was closed for a number of hours last night to allow officers to carry out their investigation but it has since been re-opened.”
