TICKETS go on sale on Wednesday for the traditional Christmas gig by veteran rockers Lindisfarne at their spiritual home.

Lindisfarne play Newcastle City Hall on Friday December 22 and Saturday December 23, with tickets on sale from 11am.

In 1976, the folk-rock legends announced three Christmas shows at the City Hall in Newcastle, gigs which became the start of a North-East festive tradition.

At their height in the late seventies, the Lindisfarne Christmas shows sold out seven successive nights at what was then the region’s biggest regular rock venue and over the years they have clocked up more than 130 dates at the venue in front of hundreds of thousands of fans.

The band was that connected with the venue, that in 2012 Newcastle’s Lord Mayor unveiled a commemorative plaque in honour of the late singer/songwriter Alan Hull.

This years shows will be packed with classic singalong hits such as Run For Home, Clear White Light and Fog On The Tyne, as well as a few surprises.

  • Tickets from £24.50 and can be purchased at www.theatreroyal.co.uk or from the Theatre Royal Box office on 08448 11 21 21.
