GREGGS bakery heir Colin Gregg has gone on trial accused of a string of historic sexual offences.

The 75-year-old former teacher of Gosforth, Newcastle, is changed with nine counts of indecent assault. He has denied all charges.

The first allegation relates to the alleged sexual abuse of a 12-year-old boy in a swimming pool in January 1963.

The other allegations are said to have taken place between 1988 to 1991 at several locations, including at Gregg’s home, and relate to boys aged between 11 and 14-years-old.

One of the victims alleges Gregg indecently assaulted him while he was head teacher at King’s Junior School in Tynemouth in the late 1980s to early 1990s.

Another complainant said he was the victim of repeated abuse, starting in the gym area of Greggs’ home and later in the shower and in his car.

The first complainant to take to the stand at Leeds Crown Court said he was 14-years-old and a pupil at Durham School, where Gregg was a teacher, when he was abused.

He said he was in the swimming pool during a lesson when Gregg approached him and said he could improve his breast stroke by holding his legs. The trial continues.
