YOUNG musicians from the region are putting on a weekend of free concerts.

The events are part of the Young Musicians Programme Winter Festival, which is being held at Sage Gateshead.

The festival will showcase groups such as singers Quay Voices, folk group Folkestra, jazz band Jambone and youth orchestra Young Sinfonia.

The concerts will be held throughout next weekend, from 10.30am on Saturday, December 10 and 11am on Sunday, December 11.

Audience members just need to pick up tickets from Sage Gateshead’s ticket office in advance or on the day.

Ed Milner, Head of Music Learning at Sage Gateshead, said: “What a fantastic way to spend a weekend, listening to our remarkable young musicians perform in Sage Gateshead’s world-class concert halls.

“The standard is really incredible and we can’t wait to put on two days of music (some of it festive) for anyone who wants to come along or who is interested in joining our Young Musicians Programme.”

Music performed over the weekend will include Christmas tunes as well as a variety of classical and popular.

Jambone will also perform new works written especially for the band by its music director Paul Edis.

The Young Musicians Programme provides opportunities for young singers and instrumentalists.
