POLICE are appealing for information after a seven-year-old was injured after being knocked over by a small scrambler bike.

The boy was on a scooter on the footpath at the back of Stridingedge, in Blackfell, Washington, when he was knocked over by a child's size scrambler motorbike at 4.30pm yesterday (Monday, September 28).

He suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident.

The bike was being ridden by a male youth wearing a grey hooded top who came from the direction of Oxclose footbridge towards the Armstrong Industrial Estate.

Officers are carrying out inquiries into the incident and would like to trace the youth on the bike.

Any witnesses are asked to come forward.

Neighbourhood Inspector Steve Pescod said: "Riding motorbikes on footpaths is incredibly dangerous and puts other people in unnecessary danger - it is also illegal and those caught could face having their bike seized and ultimately crushed."

Extra officers will be in the area this evening (Tuesday, September 28).

Anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 807 280915 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
