POLICE have this morning named the victim of a street stabbing in Newcastle as 42-year-old David Savage.
A 17-year-old arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody while a 20-year-old arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder has been released without charge.
Mr Savage was stabbed in Park Avenue, Gosforth, yesterday morning (Saturday, September 5)
Police launched a murder investigation after the man was rushed to hospital with chest wounds but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officers and paramedics were called to the street at around 5.45am following reports that a man had been stabbed.
Extra patrols will remain in the area to offer reassurance to concerned members of the public.
Superintendent Richie Jackson, of the Central Area Command, said: "We understand the concerns of the local community and extra officers are in the area to answer any questions they may have.
"This was an isolated incident and we have now made two arrests. We do not believe there is any risk to members of the wider public.
"Despite this we would still ask anyone with any information about the stabbing to get in touch as it still could help our ongoing enquiries."
